CHARGED: Neonatal Nurse Lucy Letby Has Been Charged With 18 Offences — Murder and Attempted Murder

Children’s nurse Lucy Letby (30) has been charged with 18 offences

After a three year investigation children’s nurse Lucy Letby has been charged with the murder of eight babies and the attempted murder of ten babies at the Countess of Chester Neonatal Unit where she worked.

What do we know so far?

Lucy Letby was first arrested in 2018 on the suspicion of 8 counts of murder and 6 counts of attempted murder.

In 2019 she was re-arrested on the same charges and an additional 3 counts of attempted murder. At the close of a three year long investigation Letby has now been formally charged with 8 counts of murder and 10 of attempted murder. The charges relate to 17 victims, with one being both an attempted and then completed murder.

Lucy Letby appears at Chester Crown Court

Cheshire Police launched a probe into the high infant mortality rate at the Countess of Chester hospital after the hospital raised the alarm and contacted police after the high number of deaths between March 2015 and July 2016 — which were reported to be 10% above the average.
